A part-time instructor for Portland Community College, Mel offers classes in basic, advanced, and flash photography, Adobe® Lightroom®, and seminars in color management and other digital photography topics. Mel gives presentations to companies and camera clubs. He also teaches a variety of classes at Advance Camera in Beaverton, Oregon. Mel co-created and conducts an annual photography workshop held at Lake Quinault Lodge in the Olympic rainforest, a Palouse Workshop, and recently an Inside Passage Cruise Workshop. He has been a team teaching site-photographer for Osher Institute. Nature and macro photography are his primary styles, yet he has the ability to create exquisite images within virtually all styles.
Mel's interest in photography started in the early 70's photographing rodeo events and learning aerial photography. During visits to Japan, the Philippines, and Korea; he increased his experience with SLR cameras. Mel helped American and Japanese companies establish photography departments for product photography used in equipment manuals and training programs. While residing in Japan, he taught photography to Japanese employees; and currently in Oregon, provides training for a Japanese-American photography group.
Janell's many years of experience in photography began with film SLR cameras in college. During her career in education, she's studied with well-known American and International photographers and has taken numerous photography classes and workshops. Her experiences have continually progressed to include darkroom work, video and digital cameras, and editing software. A former community college instructor, Janell has extensive experience communicating with and training adults.
In addition to co-creating and conducting the Annual Rainforest Photography Workshop held at the historic Lake Quinault Lodge, a Palouse Workshop, and an Inside Passage Cruise Workshop, she has been a team teaching site-photographer for Osher Institute. As a leader of Tomodachi-kai, a Portland area Japanese-American friendship group, she established their photography club. Additionally, as a videographer, she edits and produces ballroom dance and travel videos. Landscape, travel, and nature photography interest her the most where she balances between "realistic" and "artistic" images.
