Digital Image Editing Workflow
offered at Portland Community College

Learn an editing workflow to prepare your images for print, web, or electronic display using tools and techniques available in several editing softwares. If you have a laptop with an editing program installed, please bring it to class.

Course Description:

This class covers an editing workflow to prepare your images for print, web, or electronic display using tools & techniques available in several editing softwares.

Develop an effective image editing workflow. Discover the tool sets and a workflow that best fit your photographic needs using levels, curves, shadow/highlights, actions, and many more powerful tools.

If you have a laptop with editing software installed, please bring it to class.

Learn how to:

  • Analyze editing needs and set program preferences to best support those needs

  • Use Curves to creatively enhance images

  • Employ Levels when necessary

  • Create and use Actions to automate repetitive editing actions

  • Use Layer Masks to focus editing efforts to specific portions of an image

  • Employ the best sharpening techniques to prepare images for print

  • Create a workflow that best fits editing needs
  • Edit a "good" image to make it a GREAT! image

Capturing an image is only one step in the process of creating a piece of art with the system we call photography. Photographers must perform specific actions to capture an image – no matter what camera is used. Processing the image for various end uses such as print, web, or LCD display also requires certain steps be performed – just as film had to be developed, so too must digital images be processed. This class shows you how.
